I'm not sure which audio it was or exactly how it was phrased, but somewhere in my listening I recall something along the lines of people pleasers not being likely to say that there's anything wrong. "I'm okay" is SOP.
Today, a FB (and old time) friend asked me "Are you okay?" Normally, this kind of question would be met with the standard, "I'm fine" sort of response. Today, however, I said, "No, I'm not, but I will be soon." That's sort of a milestone for me. I never let anyone onto difficulties in my life. I didn't even go to the "I'm fine" response in my brain. And I'm rather pleased with myself.
The narc is leaving very soon - whether cooperatively or by my making it so. I guess all of my hard work is paying off if this basic programming is getting some needed adjustment.
