    Therapists/counsellors UK? Empty Therapists/counsellors UK?

Post by cariad Sat Apr 16, 2016 12:12 pm

Hi all, and sorry if this has already ben covered- I cant find a search button to see if it has.
I'm looking for a therapist/counsellor/coach to help me with my co-dependency, whilst still in a toxic relationship. I want to leave but have zero strength to do this at present. I wanted to get coaching from Richard but he's not doing any at the moment, unfortunately! I have a huge problem with self motivation so have real difficulty consistently applying any of the techniques Richard offers on Youtube and his courses. I need someone to be 'on my case' ' telling me what to do' until I gain some traction to be self motivated. And also could just really do with talking about everything with someone who really understands.
Can anyone recommend one? Many thanks... :-)

    Hi Cariad,

    Great question.

As I think that many individuals that suffered toxic relationships wonder the same thing, I made a video about it Smile

I hope it helps to answer your question.

    Best wishes,

Hallo Leyla and thank you for your advice! In the end I found some free counselling in my area so went with who I got. To be honest, I get what is being said about finding someone who specialises in Cptsd etc, but i now believe any counsellor worth their salt should be able to guide you through connecting with painful emotions, which really is the core thing that needs to be done first and foremost. I asked my counsellor if she knew about cptsd and she didnt, but I dont feel she needs to really. Pain is pain. And from starting to read The Tao of Fully Feeling I now know that whilst understanding something on a cognitive level is definitely valuable, it is only to a point, and I personally have always taken it beyond that point and used 'knowledge gaining' as a distraction technique to avoid feeling the feels, whilst convincing myself i was doing something useful! I dont know, I might be wrong. I just know I got into a panic thinking I needed a counsellor who specialised, but in the very first session I had a revelation about the fact that I have cut myself off from my 'heart' and got way too much into my head, analysing and consuming information, at the expense of just exploring my feelings.
I thought this might help some people!
Thats not to say that the work you and richard are doing isnt absolutely necessary, amazing! I have, and continue to, gain a huge amount from it. :-) thank you! X
